Promoting Social Inclusion through Technology
People with disabilities face a myriad of daily challenges and are often marginalized and isolated due to their condition. Lack of basic computer skills further perpetuates their social exclusion, piles on barriers in use of services, and hinders their independence.
Machshava Tova uses technology to narrow these gaps. We offer special program for people with disabilities, and introduce them to innovative technological tools and software. In the framework of the program, participants are exposed to various leisure and information Websites, e.g. YouTube, Facebook, TED, and education and free of charge academic courses from international universities. Particular emphasis is placed on introduction to Websites and tools to facilitate daily functions, such as the National Insurance Institute Website, banks' Websites, HMOs' Websites, and retailers' Websites.
Having access to technology alleviates fears and concerns and allows these participants to enjoy the many advantages computer literacy entails. The participants' sense of self- worth and sense of capability are enhanced, and they are presented with new opportunities for social integration and for communication with family, friends, and the community.
This program aims to impart tools to facilitate daily functions, to expand the social circle and expose participants to new interests. The course targets disabled individuals of all sectors who receive government stipends. Sessions take place in accessible centers, and are suitably adjusted to the special needs of our participants.
This program's overall goal is to promote the social inclusion of people with psychiatric disabilities. In the framework of this program, joint courses are conducted for adults with psychiatric disabilities and normative adults. These courses focus on training in basic computer skills, in a warm and accepting environment that encourages dialogue, and offers a unique opportunity for integration of both groups.
This program targets individual with complex disabilities and the elderly, and people who require constant care. The program takes place in the participants' home or in our Centers, in small groups of 5 participants' maximum. All of the activities are adjusted to cater to each participant's unique needs.
